Welcome everyone to today's video! Today, we're talking about Freedom Wars to celebrate the release of the remaster. I'm ecstatic because I honestly thought this would never happen, and I'd never see this game again. Having played some of the remaster, I can honestly say it sticks true to the original and updates what it needs to for an incredible gameplay experience that brings back some of my favorite memories of my time with the PlayStation Vita. Let me know in the comments below if you played the original on Vita, and if not, are you planning to give the remaster a try?

With all that said, let's jump right into things. When Freedom Wars first launched on the PlayStation Vita in 2014, I was captivated by its unique blend of fast-paced action, dystopian storytelling, and cooperative gameplay. Set in a world where citizens are born as prisoners and must fight for their freedom, the game introduced a compelling mix of third-person combat, tactical strategy, and societal commentary. With the announcement of Freedom Wars Remastered, this hidden gem has the chance to reach a broader audience, and it's a must-play for fans of action JRPGs. If you're a fan of cooperative multiplayer or just really interesting, thought-provoking narratives, this game will really pull on all those things and make for a really great all-around experience.

Freedom Wars has a rich and engaging story. The game is set in a dystopian future where overpopulation and resource scarcity have driven humanity to what's called Panopticon: massive city-states that enforce strict control over all of their citizens. Every individual is born a sinner, sentenced to a million years of servitude, and must earn their freedom by completing dangerous missions for the state. If you're like me, when you hear this, this is a very anime-type story and setting, which I'm all for. The narrative explores themes of freedom, oppression, and the value of human life in a world ruled by cold, utilitarian logic. As a player, you don't just battle massive enemies; you fight against the system. The remaster's enhanced graphics and voice acting breathe new life into this world and make it even more impressive for returning players like myself.

At its core, Freedom Wars offers a dynamic mix of third-person shooting, melee combat, and tactical teamwork. The game's signature mechanic is the "thorn," a grappling hook-like tool that allows you to zip around the battlefield, tether enemies, and scale massive Abductors—towering biomechanical enemies that are as thrilling to fight as they are challenging. I've always had a rule when it comes to gameplay mechanics: if there is a grappling hook involved, then I'm in. For whatever reason, I love grappling hooks; swinging around and zipping around these areas is always a blast, and that's no different in Freedom Wars. The combat system encourages experimentation and strategy, offering a wide range of weapons, customizable loadouts, and abilities. You can engage in missions solo or team up with others in cooperative multiplayer, where coordination and teamwork are absolutely essential for taking down the game's toughest enemies. In this remaster, enhanced visuals and updated mechanics are expected to elevate the already intense gameplay. Improved controls, refined mechanics, and potentially new content will make battles smoother, faster, and more exhilarating than ever before.

One of the standout features of Freedom Wars is its multiplayer mode. Up to eight players can team up online to tackle challenging missions, strategize against colossal enemies, and compete for resources to benefit their state. The cooperative element transforms the game into an almost entirely social experience where communication and teamwork can really make all the difference. The remaster will include updated online features such as better matchmaking and expanded multiplayer options. For those seeking an action JRPG that fosters a sense of community, Freedom Wars Remastered seems to be a perfect choice.

If I had to compare Freedom Wars to anything, it's definitely Monster Hunter. This game feels very much like a Monster Hunter game with more story and deeper JRPG-like mechanics. I love Monster Hunter, so this gameplay loop hooked me almost instantly. If you enjoy those games, I can almost guarantee you'll have a ton of fun with Freedom Wars. There's a lot to love here, and I can't wait to continue playing more.

When Freedom Wars first launched, its exclusivity to the PS Vita limited its reach. However, the game quickly gained a passionate following, earning praise for its originality, gameplay depth, and compelling world-building. The remastered version provides an opportunity for a new generation of players to experience this cult classic, free from the constraints of the Vita's limited hardware. The remaster's improvements in graphics, performance, and accessibility ensure that Freedom Wars can stand alongside modern action games. This game holds up incredibly well for a game that's 10 years old and was stranded on a handheld system. This game is still as fun as ever to play, and whether you're a longtime fan eager to revisit it or a newcomer curious about this dystopian masterpiece, Freedom Wars Remastered is an experience that feels really fresh and super exciting.

Let's face it: not everyone owned a PS Vita; in fact, most people didn't, and therefore, so many people missed out on Freedom Wars when it first launched. This remaster is the perfect opportunity to experience this hidden gem on modern platforms. I've been playing it on Steam Deck, and it is really the perfect fit. Not much of the core game has changed, so it still feels tailored to be a handheld experience. If you have a Steam Deck, then this is a really great pickup. It really is rare to find a game that combines such a unique story, original gameplay, and meaningful multiplayer in one package, and Freedom Wars Remastered manages to deliver it all.

I also want to mention the hook in this game, and it's the concept of reducing your sentence that adds a satisfying layer of progression. Every mission, successful rescue, or resource collection chips away at your punishment, giving you tangible rewards for your efforts, and seeing that sentence get lower and lower is just so satisfying. As your sentence decreases, you unlock new privileges, like the ability to run freely or talk to others. This progression isn't just about stats or gear; it's about regaining your freedom in a world designed to suppress it.

There are also really deep customization options, from your character's appearance to your combat style. Freedom Wars offers a ton of options to toy around with. You can choose from a wide variety of weapons, ranging from melee swords to long-range firearms, and really tailor your abilities to fit your play style.

Freedom Wars Remastered is more than just an upgraded version of a beloved game; it's a second chance for fans to immerse themselves in a world of great storytelling, exhilarating combat, and rewarding cooperation. This remaster has all the makings of a must-play experience. I thoroughly recommend this game, and if you give this a try, I don't think you will regret it. If you watched this video and came away with any interest in this one, then definitely I think you should give this a try.

Anyway, that's it for me. Let me know in the comments below if you've been playing and what you think of the game. Are there any other games out there that you are hoping to get brought back, ones that are kind of flying under the radar, maybe a lot of people didn't get the opportunity to play? If so, what are they? I'm looking forward to learning what you all think, and until next time, I'm out.

We've got good news for those who want to atone for their sins in a harsher environment and contribute more to their Panopticon: introducing the new Deadly Sinner High difficulty mode. In the Deadly Sinner mode, the years of sentence received for committing a penalty during volunteer missions are increased, allowing sinners to experience a harder challenge. The remastered version will also come with many customizations which were distributed as additional content in the original game. The voices for the accessories have also been renewed, offering a total of eight different types to choose from. Also, you can now listen to the songs from all 11 Propaganda Idols in the game. Customize and create your own unique style as a sinner. There are many more adjustments and changes besides these ones, which are sure to help all the sinners out there. Abductor detected!
